For the last 20 years, I have been offering nutrition advice to individuals looking to live a healthier and happier lifestyle. I specialise in weight management, gut health and women's health.
Additionally, as a nutrition scientist, I have had numerous academic articles published in leading nutrition journals. And, my most recently published article, in the journal Nutrition and Healthy Aging, looks at the role of Intermittent Fasting on gut health - 'Intermittent fasting - a potential approach to modulate the gut microbiota in humans?'
Outside of work, as a hearing aid wearer with severe hearing loss, I am committed to raising awareness of hearing loss, and reducing the stigma surrounding wearing hearing aids.

The trillions of microbes that live in the human gut are involved in virtually all aspects of human health, and increasing evidence suggests that these microbes are profoundly linked to human health and disease. The microbiota composition of every individual is unique and personalised. Whilst it has been largely accepted that dietary habits affect intestinal microbiota composition, current data has shown that dietary changes can induce large, temporary microbial shifts within only 24 h. We need to focus on repairing our guts, re-inoculating (this means repopulating) the friendly bacteria, ensuring our gut microbiota is balanced and diverse.
How do we do this?
Firstly, we want to remove anything that could be irritating to the gut.
Then depending on your health condition and symptoms, you may be lacking certain elements that are key to digestion such as stomach acid, bile and digestive enzymes, thus we may need to replace these.
Following this stage, we can then focus on re-inoculation (repopulating), and this can be achieved by introducing foods rich in prebiotics and probiotics, and foods which promote a strong gut lining.
Finally, we need to address lifestyle habits such as sleep and stress management, as they have a significant impact on our digestive system and health.
